Five reasons you should choose your own Conveyancer

At O’Brien Conveyancers, the team works to ensure your property buying experience is positive, stress free and simple.

Buying a house can be one of the most exhilarating AND stressful experiences of your life.

I still remember buying my first house. Unlike others, I felt completely comfortable and confident during the process. I had literally lived and breathed the property market my entire life, growing up in a family Conveyancing business. But – I was unique, because I knew that this, possibly the biggest financial transaction of my entire life, was going to be a well managed experience and I could trust the people around me to make it happen seamlessly.

It was only when I started talking to friends who were in the same predicament, (ready to take the plunge into property), that I started to understand just how stressful the concept of property purchase was.

So it’s no surprise that when I moved into the family business at O’Brien Conveyancers myself, I took this experience with me. My priority was (and continues to be) ensuring I can make my clients’ property purchase experience the most comfortable possible, and they can trust in the legal processes I work through on their behalf.

It’s for all of these reasons, that when you are buying OR selling property, you need to have a team of experts in your corner. Here are my top tips for what to look for when you’re choosing a Conveyancer …

1. Pick someone with your best interests at heart

Often people allow themselves to be steered towards a Conveyancer they don’t know. This isn’t always the best solution, and while it might sometimes work well, buyers don’t necessarily need to go with the Conveyancer their real estate agent recommends. Purchasers should always remember that real estate agents always act in the interest of the Vendor (person selling the property), after all, that is who is paying for their services.

2. Pick someone local

While a lot of your contact can be done via phone and email, having a local Conveyancer means you can sit down and have a chat face-to-face about any concerns or questions you have throughout the property transaction process. Not only this, but a lot of people are more comfortable dealing with local people who know the local property landscape.

At O’Brien Conveyancers we are always available to talk with our clients, whether it be to help them understand the progress of a sale, answer legal questions, or help them in any other way.

You will also see our team out and about in the community at local sporting events, at the school performance or enjoying all other aspects of Murraylands life.

3. Ask about costs up front

It’s important to know what costs you are up for and how the payment can be made. By asking this question straight up and choosing your own Conveyancer, you can ensure there will be no hidden fees or nasty surprises.

4. Choose experience

It’s important to choose someone who has experience, and will be able to manage and anticipate all of the finer details associated with what may well be the biggest financial investment of your life. O’Brien Conveyancers has been in the South Australian Conveyancing industry since 1977, and as the current owner and director of the company, I (Patrick) have more than 20 years experience.

5. Find someone you feel you can trust

It’s important to trust and feel comfortable with your Conveyancer. It’s nice to know that the person you talk to on the phone, is the same person you meet when you walk into the office.
